NeoGraf @ FNC 2007

Oct 2007

One of our latest projects sees first light: Large-scale projection of graffiti onto public spaces!

For two nights this October we invited local graffiti artists to tag
a highly visible building in downtown Montreal using system we developed as we as the GRL's LASER TAG system. Sightings were reported from across the city.

Look for a takeover of Vancouver this March!

WHY?:
The public space has become the marketers’
billboard. We do not question the
transformation of our shared space into an unending series of
commercials. We are fed what to think, want and desire;
what to be, what to look like; how to talk, walk and act. Our
lives are sold to us through a never ending series of fictions.
Disentangling our core selves from the fabricated wants of
marketers has become as impossible as
distinguishing brand from culture.

Through the co-opting of our cultural traditions; through the
co-opting of our public spaces all space has become
branded space. Every blank area is a further
opportunity to market; every cultural tradition is an
opportunity to further penetrate the consciousness of the
public.

But who gave them the right? When did it become acceptable
for corporations to invade our most intimate of corners in
order to sell us their wares? Our visual and mental
environments have become polluted with the waste of
corporate greed. The incessant force of the ad has created
an environment where we can no longer differentiate our true
selves from their fabricated wants.
